Authorities of National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology on Sunday directed all second, third and fourth year students staying at its Hatia-based hostel, to vacate the premises immediately.
The move, which sources claimed was spurred by an incident of ragging on the institute premises on Friday, is primarily aimed at dousing tension prevailing on campus.
A faculty member of the institute on Sunday said that there were more than 300 second, third and fourth year students, who had asked to leave within 24 hours.
A group of first-year students had allegedly been thrashed by their seniors on Friday night, following which a complaint had been lodged at Jagannathpur police station.
Officers at Jagannathpur police station said that the juniors had filed their complaint under sections 147, 148, 149, 341, 323, 337, 425, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code, all of which were non-bailable.
The police said that altogether 19 seniors had been named in the FIR that had been lodged. source-.telegraphindia
